Can we go back to work now?

It was a long weekend of homework, can we go back to work now? I actually got several breaks due to being On Call at GL. Mick thinks that maybe I paid off the technologists, so that I would get paged once an hour!

Here's the view of the basement stairs. The concrete wall under the staircase will get notched down. The new steps will probably end around the third stud from the back wall.
One of GC Mike's directives for the weekend: "Empty that room!"
The entry doors for the kitchen and basement are gone, as is the flooring between the two. Did I mention that getting that flooring loose is a major deal?
Looking north toward the office, you can see that the flooring has been removed to about 4 feet into the office. GC Mike wants to get the bathroom walls in place so the plumber can hide lines and pipes. Before that, he'll put down new subfloor.
Looking south from the office toward the kitchen. We had stored a few things in the office, but it's no longer a safe zone. Our world is getting smaller!
This is what we're looking forward to now!
We have a few decisions to make very soon:
  • We need to solve the dilemma for the first floor bathroom. The space we have will take a 5 foot long unit, but we probably should go no wider than 32". We've been debating whether it should be a traditional tub-shower combo or a shower stall. FYI, on second floor there is a bathroom with a tub-shower unit, and the master bath has a shower stall plus a whirlpool tub. Weigh in on comments if you have opinions.
  • Mike gave us a lead on a different supplier for floor tile. We need to go check them out and possibly abandon where we had been looking. Sigh... many trips to Holmen have occurred. Hopefully we know what we like now!
  • We need to decide what to do about the vent hood vs vented microwave. The vent hood is about double the cfm of the fan under the microwave. That tips us toward a separate vent hood. However, the microwave with the control panel that I like only comes in a model with a fan and light under it. Is it crazy to mount something like this under the countertop? It's pretty level on the bottom, so the fan would not be obvious. www.ge.com/cafe

Time to call it a weekend!

I'd go Tub/Shower combo on the first floor... always nice to have an extra if you have company, and as for the microwave vs vent hood.. I never really found a vent hood THAT usefull, but the microwave over stove is verrrry handy :). Good Luck Andrea and Mick!
